|Tour Departure Dates:||Every day. Please let us know upon booking where you would like to be picked up from, and dropped off to. See tour exclusions for potential surcharges.
|Travel Season:||All year and each season have its advantages: November – April is normally considered the dry season and the best time to visit. Expect fewer leeches and that the river levels are at their lowest making river crossings much easier. During the rainy season (May/June - October) rain must be expected and trails are slippery. However, it is also the season where wildlife returns to the lakeshores and the main fruiting season emerges.
Please note that the itinerary is weather and season dependent, and may change without prior notice. We do not hold any liability in this regard, and we encourage you to meet life in the rainforest with an open mind. The experience will be extraordinary regardless.

In general, we recommend you to honestly access your child's ability to meet nature and its activities.
Please be aware that even though Khao Sok is relatively safe, it is a remote national park. We recommend you to keep an eye on your children at all times and not let them stray off on their own. Your experience will depend on your child’s openness and physical ability, and you may have to opt out of certain activities if it is not fit for your child

ItineraryDay 1: Arrive in Khao Sok National Park. Bamboo raft the Sok River, bath and feed an elephant
Khao Sok National Park is one of the oldest rainforests in the world and home to the man-made Cheow Lan Lake. It is conveniently located in Southern Thailand, between the two coasts, and in the morning you will transfer from either Surat Thani or Khao Lak to your Khao Sok community lodge*. It is on the edge of Khao Sok National Park, surrounded by breath-taking lime stone cliffs, rising high above the ancient forests.
In the afternoon, go bamboo rafting down the Sok River. Limestone mountains hoover above you and you have the opportunity to spot wildlife along the riverbanks, and perhaps even make a stop along the way to find rubber trees or a small cave.
From Bamboo Rafting to Elephant experience. You will spend time preparing elephant food to feed an old elephant. You will have opportunity to bath it and in general spend time with the elephant and mahout (elephant care taker). By taking part in this low impact experience we support the elephants and contribute to their ethical upkeep.*
At dinner time, join a jungle dinner food demonstration to get a feeling for cooking in this region and with the local ingredients. You will leave with a full stomach and a better understanding of the local food culture before settling for the night.
Accommodation: Anurak Community Lodge in double or twin room bungalows with own bathroom
Day 2: Full day at the Cheow Lan Lake, swim in the lake and explore the surroundings
Wake up to the sound of birds singing and gibbons calling from the treetops. Have breakfast in the early morning as the mist slowly lifts itself from the mountains. You will spend the day at Cheow Lan Lake – without a doubt one of the most strikingly beautiful places in Thailand! With over 100 little islets and towering limestone cliffs, a full day lake tour gives you not only the opportunity to marvel at the magnificent ‘fairy-tale’ like scenery, but also to spot wild life in their natural habitat.
Upon arrival at the Rajaprabha Dam you will board a long tail boat and head deep into a remote corner of the lake. Surrounding you is the giant limestone cliffs, green rainforest, and bold trees rising from the water surface.
Around noon, you will arrive at the raft house, where you will have time to sail or swim in the clear water, or just relax at the floating deck.
After a traditional Thai lunch you will have the option to stay at the rafthouse or join a trekking tour (see age guidelines under children policy and particpants). If you opt to stay back at the raft house, you have the lake and floating platform at your availability - swim, sail, relax or explore the surroundings. If you go for the trekking tour you will spend time in the ancient jungle of Khao Sok. Depending on the season, your guide may take you through a local cave, show you edible plant species, how to find drinking water in bamboo, or how to spot wildlife in the canopy. Please wear closed shoes, suitable for trekking.
Back at the raft house you will set sail around 15:00 and venture into the lake waters yet again. The sail is truly breathtaking with the bold trees rising from the water surface and the steep limestone cliffs as a constant backdrop.
You will be back at the Lodge in the late afternoon, just in time for a sundowner and a shower after a long day. At dinner time, you will have your communal dinner and the opportunity to swap travel tales with fellow travellers.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
Accommodation: Anurak Community Lodge in double or twin room bungalows with own bathroom
Day 3: Departure from Khao Sok National Park to your onwards destination
Rise early and enjoy your breakfast in the restaurant while marvelling at the morning mist. Continue to your onwards destination when you please - just let us know upon booking at what time, we should arrange your transfer, and to where. Either go in the morning to catch an island ferry. Or if you have time, spend extra time exploring the area. Your hosts can arrange a wide range of activities for you such as river tubing or back road biking.
Transportation from/to Surat Thani train station/airport or Khao Lak is included. Other destinations are possible for an extra fee. Please let us know your start/end location and desired pick-up/drop-off time upon booking.
The Khao Sok Adventure is done in cooperation with local community operators, and their English may not always be perfect.
The tour lets you explore Thailand's oldest rainforest, and while the above is a general outline of the activities, the actual program is dependent on the local community, the weather/season and the group's general willingness and fitness level. As such, the tour itinerary may change without prior notice where the tours/sights may be substituted, and/or the sequence may be changed. We do not hold any liability in this regard, and we encourage you to meet the local life in the rainforest with an open mind. The experience will be extraordinary regardless.
*Go Beyond Asia does not offer tours with elephant riding. There is, and will still be a lot of elephant riding in Khao Sok, and we cannot guarantee that you will not see it. Thailand has a long history and tradition of using elephants as working elephants in the fields, forests, and latest in the tourism industry. To change the Thai perception of elephant care takes time. It is part of their culture. This also goes for the use of sticks and hatches, which are occasionally used for safety, or to direct the elephants, same way as a rider rides his horse.
If you want an experience free for any of the above, we recommend that you do so in North Thailand instead, where you can find well developed Happy Elephant Camps, and mahout training.
It is not possible to bring large suitcases to the raft house. In case you are travelling with a large suitcase, our local staff will store them and return them to you at the pier upon your departure from the raft house.
