Koh Phi Phi
Waking up not knowing whether to hang out on the beach or maybe go on a snorkel trip. Fresh fruit shakes made directly on the beach. Going below surface in search for sharks and colorful fishes. Meeting other travellers whit a bucket in one hand and a fire show just before your eyes. Thinking about what to do tomorrow: toes in sand or sand in hair?
In the bay nestled in between Phuket and Krabi one island group is the Phi Phi Islands with Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Ley. Many travelers come here, either on a one-day trip by boat from Phuket or Krabi or to just enjoy the island feel for a few days. The island is busy with backpackers but still you can find your own quiet spot at Long Beach or one of the northern beaches. Or head into Phi Phi town with its plenty restaurants, 7/11’s, small street shops with souvenirs, bars with cheap buckets, music parlours and incredible fire shows at the beach.
Furthermore, the island is famous for the world class diving in the calm and clear waters surrounding the island. With many dive spots you can get eye to eye with the occasional whale shark. If you’re not that lucky, you might meet a few turtles, reef sharks or leopard sharks, sea snakes and for sure you’ll find Nemo, Dora and all of their friends. Is diving not your thing? No problem. Just spent the day sailing around in a longtail boat snorkeling at all the great spots. Or rent a kayak and go explore by yourself. You might want to pay Monkey Beach a visit and feed the monkeys the leftover of your lunch. Or cruise to Maya Bay for the famous views from the scene from the blockbuster The Beach.
Be sure not to miss the viewpoint on Koh Phi Phi Don. The climb up the many stairs are well worth it once you reach the top and see the stunning views of the islands. Go here for a sunset that turns the sky pink and makes you truly enjoy the moment. You will share the views with many others so be here early and get a good spot on the rocks. And then just enjoy your holiday with a beer in your hand.
If sun tanning at the white sandy beach with palm trees swaying in the breeze and the crystal blue water as a background view starts to bore you, you can get an adrenalin kick by jumping off the tall limestone cliffs surrounding the islands. Or challenge yourself and get sweaty the hard way with rock climbing.
Be aware that Phi Phi Islands are a well-known and loved island by many. And be aware that they are building lots of new hotels, supermarkets and other things to please the tourist. Unfortunately this affects the islands in a sad way as you will find building materials, broken things and garbage many places. As well as you will be either tempted or annoyed by the noise pollution from the beach parties every night. However, it’s still a lovely island with many experiences awaiting you!
