Travel Update: Entry Requirement for Umphang, Thailand

If your trip includes Umphang National Park (Tak Province), please note a new guideline from Thai Immigration now in effect at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in Bangkok.

Upon arrival, travelers will need to verbally declare their visit when asked about travel plans at the immigration counter. Simply say:

“I’m traveling to Umphang National Park as part of a pre-booked, arranged package trip.”

No extra paperwork or documents needed just a short verbal confirmation.
This helps Thai authorities monitor travel to border provinces, including Tak, where major crossings with Myanmar remain active.

The procedure applies to all visitors heading to Tak Province or Umphang and will remain in effect until further notice.

We recommend informing your travelers in advance to ensure a smooth and quick immigration process on arrival.

Thailand–Cambodia Border Checkpoint Negotiations & Tourism Impacts (22-Sep-25)

Key Developments:

  • Negotiations are underway to reopen some Thailand–Cambodia border checkpoints following recent heightened security and closures.
  • Several crossings remain closed due to ongoing tensions, security concerns, and unresolved disputes over territory.
  • Thailand has emphasized that conditions must be met before easing restrictions, particularly around safety and illegal activities such as online scam operations.

Tourism & Trade Impact:

  • Many cross-border tour packages have been canceled.
  • Hotel bookings near border provinces have dropped significantly.
  • Authorities and business leaders report that both cross-border trade and tourist flows have fallen sharply, negatively impacting local economies.
  • Widespread travel advisories recommend avoiding border provinces, though Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Siem Reap, and Phnom Penh remain safe and unaffected.

Go Beyond Status:

  • Land travel across the border is currently affected and will be substituted by air travel where needed.
  • Tourism activities and itineraries away from the conflict zones continue to operate as normal.
