Day 1: Chumphon to Koh Kye – Camping on a remote island

Welcome to Chumphon! Upon arrival at Chumphon Airport or Railway Station, meet your driver for a private transfer (about 25 min) to Pinary Resort, a small, family-run boutique hotel facing the impressive Bo Mao Bay. Check-in and free time to relax. Breakfast will be served at the hotel restaurant.

This morning is free at leisure. You can either enjoy a refreshing swim at Bo Mao Bay or hop on a motorcycle and head to the nearby Sand Dune of Noen Sai, a well-known spot for amazing pictures. On the way back, don’t miss a stop at Yai Ai Cave, home to a community of monks who use this natural structure as shelter. Holes in the ceiling provide a lot of natural light. A lot of the walls have a green colour which comes from the salt in the sea air. This cave is right on the sea shore where you find mangroves growing.

After a delicious lunch served at the hotel restaurant, meet your guide who will accompany you to Kye Island for an amazing camping experience. He will first give you a basic briefing on safety and dos & don’ts on this fragile island. Then, you will receive a complete camping equipment package including a tent, sleeping bags, pillow, front head lamps and some beach games.

Around 14.00, we will make a short drive to the nearby pier. There, you will get your last chance to purchase snacks and drinks to bring along with you on the island. Follow your guide to the fishermen community and hop on a traditional boat for a 30 min cruise towards Koh Kye.

Koh Kye has a unique feature which is different from other islands. It is actually a “coral graveyard”, which takes the form of a white sand dune, and just as white as an egg! A large amount of dead corals has been gathering on this dune island since Typhoon Gay attacked Chumphon in 1989. As time passes, rainwater changes the colour of the dead corals to white, creating the natural beauty of this unique island.

Koh Kye is a sanctuary of peace surrounded with coral reefs and home to a thick jungle. This is where we will set up our camp for the night. Don’t worry, there are plenty of activities waiting for you, including snorkelling in the coral reef among hundreds of colourful fish, or participating in a fun beach volleyball tournament while the sun sets in the background.

Just after sunset, join the rest of the group for a delicious BBQ prepared with freshly caught seafood and vegetables grown by the farmer community of Chumphon. Enjoy the rest of the evening in good company under the stars while listening to campfire stories. By night, fishermen often make a stop on the island and invite campers to join them fishing squid. Quite an experience!

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Overnight in camping tent on Koh Kye.
Note: Kindly inform your pick-up detail at least 48 hours in advance.

Day 2: Koh Kye to Chumphon – Beach cleaning and back to the mainland!

Time to wake up (7.30 am)! Join the rest of the group for a tasty breakfast.

You will then receive a bag to collect all waste and garbage you can find around you. We will make sure not to leave any trace of our passage. Once the basecamp is packed and the beach appears as beautiful as when we reached it, we embark on the fishermen boat and head back to the mainland.

On arrival, we will transfer back to Pinary Resort for a refreshing, well-deserved shower. Program ends here (10.30 am), but feel free to ask for a transfer to your next destination (pier to Koh Tao, airport, railway station, beach, etc).
