ItineraryYou will be picked up from your accommodation in the morning between 08.00am and 08.30am. Please be ready in the hotel lobby 15 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. Well travel by van to our base in Mae Wang, arriving around 9:30am.
At our Mae Wang basecamp, our team will introduce you to your tuk-tuk and begin your driving training. If you dont want to drive a tuk-tuk, dont worry and just enjoy the joys of natures air-conditioning from the breeze in in the backseat. The tuk-tuks are pretty easy to master and once everyone is feeling comfortable behind the wheel, well head through tiny rural roads, snaking through farming villages and past rural temples. One of our guides always drives the lead tuk-tuk, making sure that you dont lose your way and no-one is tempted to go too fast!
With frequent stops to explore and, more importantly, to make sure everyone has an opportunity to drive, youll get a great insight into rural life in Northern Thailand. Something thats not as easy to come across as youd think.
By late morning well arrive at the elephant home where youll not only learn about the past, present and future of the Thai Elephant, but also have the opportunity to interact with them. Once youve been introduced to the elephants who have been taken out of a life of trekking and can now relax and enjoy their time more naturally youll help the mahouts feed the majestic beasts.
After youve fed the elephants its time to sit down to a feast of traditional Thai food, right next to the elephants so you can continue watching them and seeing how they interact with each other. Once youve finished lunch, youll walk with the mahouts and their elephants through the local countryside and to the river where youll help the mahouts wash the elephants a fantastic experience for both you and the elephants!
Well enjoy some water activities of a different kind as you float lazily along the local river on a traditional bamboo raft. Dont worry, there are no rapids along the way so this is a great opportunity to see the local surroundings from a different angle and have a huge amount of fun negotiating the twists and turns of the river.
At around 4:00pm, youll jump back into your tuk-tuk and wind your way back down the valley, enjoying your last moments behind the wheel of a real Thailand icon. The road curves and sweeps gently down the valley and be sure to have your camera out to catch the surprise of the local community when they see you driving your very own tuk-tuk!
On reaching basecamp, youll transfer back into a minivan and well take you back to your hotel, arriving around 6:00PM to give you plenty of time to reflect on the incredible day youve had!
Please Note: all drivers must be aged 18 or over and hold a valid manual driving license. No elephant riding is allowed.
