Itinerary
Day 1: Bangkok
Away from the shopping malls and tourist hotspots of metropolitan Bangkok, we will discover the western bank of the Chao Phraya River and the 3rd capital of Siam: Thonburi. Be ready in the afternoon for your pick-up by shared van and head to the local shop to get your bike and safety equipment. We will set off through the Bang Rak neighborhood, head to the pier, and take a ferry over to this less-traveled destination. Today, Thonburi is a vibrant local community of people and places that we will explore as we ride through the back streets that juxtapose with the imposing skyscrapers of downtown.
We will bike through Bangkok's Old Town district, as this neighborhood is perfect to explore by bike as we avoid the big roads. Our next stop is one of Bangkok’s most visually striking landmarks, the Temple of Dawn. We will board the ferry to cross back over the Chao Phraya River to the Royal District of Ratanakosin Island where you will be rewarded with views of illuminated and glittering temples and the royal palace. We will stop to enjoy a cold drink at a rooftop bar and then feast on some of Bangkok’s best street food on our way to Wat Pho. We will avoid the hordes of tourists that visit this landmark during the daytime as well as enjoying the cooler temperatures as we walk around the temple complex. You will be amazed by the picturesque pagodas and stupas lit to create a magical and mysterious atmosphere.
We will start heading back to drop-off our bikes, but not before pedaling through Bangkok's bustling Chinatown and Thailand’s biggest (and 24-hour!) flower market. Drop off your bikes and then board your shared van back to your hotel.
