Day 6: Vientiane Challenge – Cycle the countryside trails and kayak the mighty Mekong River
Meet your guide at our representative's office in downtown Vientiane at 09:00 am where our cycling trip begins and we bike straight out from downtown Vientiane.

We'll bike through the countryside and cycle towards the Mekong River where we'll enjoy beautiful views across the river and into neighboring Thailand. After a few kilometers, it's time to turn off and head towards the village of Ban Tong Pong. From the village, we'll continue along the canal whose source is the nearby Mekong and is which is used to irrigate nearby rice fields, until we reach a Khmu village. As we carry on cycling despite the relative proximity of the bustling city, you'll feel like you are a million miles away! Enjoy the peace and serenity as you watch the local people going about their everyday tasks.

We'll head off the regular roads and onto dirt roads which take us through rice fields and the forest. The trail can get a little muddy and sandy along the way, but we'll enjoy really being away from everything and will immerse us in nature. Along the way, we may see the local people tending to their rice paddy fields (depending on the time of the year) and the trail will lead us back to a tarmac road. From here we cycle along the main road which is newly paved and very smooth yet relatively quiet in terms of traffic. We'll begin with a slight ascent and then takes a steady downhill until arriving at the village of Ban Mai which sits on the banks of the Mekong. We'll make the transition from land to water as we kayak down the Mekong River back to Vientiane. However, before we board our kayaks, we'll enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch, we'll head to a jungle temple which is located close by and look around before return to Ban Mai to don our life-jackets and board your kayaks for the journey downstream back to Vientiane. Along the way, we'll enjoy the scenery on both sides of the river as we head along the border between Laos and Thailand, staying on the Lao side of course. The Mekong River is home to several river islands (Don in Lao) and we'll visit one of the largest (Don Xing Xou) which is used for farming because of the year-round fertile environment. It's also home to a beautiful beach during the dry season!

From here we'll continue on our kayaks with our final destination, Vientiane, in our sights. Our trip ends just outside the city center where we'll be collected via truck and you'll be returned to your hotel in the afternoon.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Accommodation: Mixay Paradise Hotel, or similar

Day 7: Free time in Vientiane - End of trip
