Sangkhlaburi

Distant sounds of Hornbills returning from the wild fruit trees. An old long-tail boat loaded with villagers heading for an unknown part of the lake. A ruined Hmong temple hidden under water. Low clouds on the mountains, hiding an unknown Burma beyond. A kayaker exploring the shores. Go on a Lake House Adventure and you might well experience it all.

Sangklaburi seems to be the end of the world. Everybody knows each other here. Slowness is prevailing. Yet there are still gravel roads heading into the mountains, still Karen compounds nearer to Burma, still a paved road heading to three pagodas pass. For now the border is still closed here for travelers here but it might soon change.

Sangklaburi is blessed with its location, right in the middle of a mountain-scape, continuing into Burma for miles. And right at the shores of the Hong Kiew Lake, nestled below the mountains and dotted with limestone cliffs. The lake has an abundance of fishes, some of them enormous, and around the lake is floating islands, where fishermen have their gear and nets.

Explore this fine area on board the Lake House Adventure. The Lake House is our floating hideaway, where you can stay in comfort in the middle of remoteness. Every day we anchor a new place and our guide takes you on small, neat explorations. Beyond the ordinary.
