On the banks of the holy Yamuna river, stands a Mausoleum famous across the world. The name is Taj Mahal, built by love, by the Mogul emperor Shah Jahan for his favorite wife. To see it right, to see it well, come here in the soft morning light, or late in the early evening when shadows plays and light is soft too.
True it is that nearby the mighty Taj are quite a few classical attractions. The large Red Fort, Itmad-Ud-Daula (baby Taj), the abandoned capital – Fatehpur Sikri and Mehtab Bagh (Moon lit garden). From here you have a fine photo opportunity of Yamuna River and Taj Mahal.
But yet if it wasn’t for Taj Mahal, it is certainly unlikely that Agra would be the destination it is. It is not only western tourist heading here. For Indians, Taj Mahal, and its love story, is part of the Indian Epic, and millions of Indian travellers from beggars to Ministers, go here to enjoy the splendors and have a fine time with their families.
So come here not to see the Mausoleum alone, but foremost to look at people. Lovers, dreamers, stressed tour groups, and touts. They come in all colors and shapes, from early mornings, till nightfall.
