Travel Season:

Nepal has the widest altitude range of any country on the earth. Each altitude has its own weather, from tropical heat to Arctic cold. In the main trekking seasons in spring and autumn, the weather is generally stable and even the high passes may be free of snow and relatively easy to traverse at times You are heading into the worlds highest mountain range. Be prepared for changes of temperature and weather!

Upper Mustang is especially ideal as an alternate trekking destination during the normal monsoon season of June-August as the region is generally shadowed from the seasonal rain.

Excluded from Price:

- Meals (buy locally at teahouses) expect to pay approx. USD 25-35 per person per day
- Any kind of transport after ending the trip in Pokhara
- Personal expenses (such as laundry, phone calls, cigarettes, bar bills/soft/Hot drinks /mineral water etc.)
- Personal items such as medications, clothing and equipment (sleeping bag and down jacket could be rented in Kathmandu)
- Hot showers and attached bathrooms; should these be available in the teahouses and should the lodge owner charges extra for these
- Comprehensive travel insurance that covers emergency evacuation from remote mountain locations as well as the standard cover like trip cancellation, lost baggage etc.

Itinerary

DAY 1: KATHMANDU – POKHARA
You leave in the morning from Kathmandu towards Pokhara – the third largest city of Nepal. As you capture the roads, you will have beautiful scapes just outside your window and the scenic drive spoils your senses.
After about 7 hours bus ride you will reach Pokhara; a beautiful city full of natural beauty. The northern skyline of the city offers a very close view of the Himalayas. Its pristine air, spectacular backdrop of snowy peaks, serene lakes and surrounding greenery make it ‘the jewel in the Himalaya’, a place of remarkable natural beauty.

Driving time: approx. 7 hours.
Overnight: Budget hotel.


DAY 2: POKHARA – JOMSOM (FLIGHT) // JOMSON – KAGBENI (TREK)
Get ready for an early morning flight to Jomsom offering you serene mountain views from the sky. In fact, the flight and the perfect views are an attraction in itself.
From Jomsom an easy walk awaits you, following the river valley of Kaligandaki upwards. You will have good mountain views of Mt. Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri and Tilicho.
You stay overnight in a teahouse in Kagbeni – a beautiful old Thakali village with old monasteries and important connection point between upper and lower Mustang.

Trekking time: approx. 3 hours.
Heights: Kagbeni 2800m.
Overnight: Tea house.

DAY 3: KAGBENI – CHAILE (TREK)
You leave Kagbeni behind and start another day of explorations. After breakfast you follow the bumpy road passing two small Tibetan style villages and cross the bridge over Kaligandaki river. Then you climb up hill to stay overnight in the village of "Chaile" – a traditional Tibetan style village.

Trekking time: approx. 7 hours.
Heights: Chaile 3100m.
Overnight: Tea house.


DAY 4: CHAILE – SYANGBOCHE (TREK)
Warm up your body for an up hill walk most of the day to reach Syangboche. On the way, you will follow a bumpy road and pass the Tibetan style and cultural villages of Smar and Vena.
Enjoy the greenery and mountain views of Mt. Nilgiri, Mt. Annapuran and Mt. Tukuche together with Kaligandaki valley today.

Trekking time: approx. 6 hours.
Heights: Syangboche 3800m.
Overnight: Tea house.


DAY 5: SYANGBOCHE – GHAMI (TREK)
After breakfast you climb to the pass at 3850m. From here you will have a nice gradual walk all the way to Jhaitee followed by a small climb to a 3900m pass. Following the road, descend to Ghami – a nice local village with Tibetan culture and lifestyle. Enjoy the beautiful natural red cliffs with all its caves for you to explore.

Trekking time: approx. 6 hours.
Heights: Ghami 3520m.
Overnight: Tea house.


DAY 6: GHAMI – CHHARANG (TREK)
After breakfast cross the bridge and enjoy the long stone structure wall carved with buddhist praying chants. Afterwards, you start to climb up hill till another pass of 3900 m. and from here you descend to Chharang following the jeep track. Chharang is a Tibetan style village where you can explore its old monastery, chorten and fine views of the Mt. Annapurna range.

Trekking time: approx. 5 hours.
Heights: Chharang 3560m.
Overnight: Tea house.


DAY 7: CHHARANG – LO MANTHANG (TREK)
Today you have two options depending on your desire and the weather:
You can follow a jeep track all the way to Lo Manthang offering good views of natural cliffs and caves.
Alternatively, you might follow a trekking route via Lo Gakar following the river upward until Ghar Gumba. Then gradual uphill walk till the pass of 4230m and gradual down hill to Lo Manthang (walking time 6 hrs).

Lo Manthang is a walled city that used to be the capital of the Kingdom of Lo. It is surprising how little Lo Manthang has changed over the centuries and it is still rich in tradition and ancient culture with monasteries, village life, fields and the old Royal palace.

Trekking time: Approx: 4-6 hrs.
Height: Lo Manthang (3760M).
Overnight: Tea house.


DAY 8: LO MANTHANG (EXPLORE)
Today you will have tume to truly explore the walled town of Lo Manthang. You will visit old monastries, stroll around the town to sense and comprehend the Tibetan life and culture, visit to the royal palace and hike to the wonderful caves.

Overnight: Tea house.

DAY 9: LO MANTHANG – GHAMI (TREK)
Leaving the beauty of Lo Manthang you start your trek the same way back through the beautiful scapes of Mustang.

Trekking time: approx. 8-9 hours.
Heights: Ghami (3520m).
Overnight: Tea house.


DAY 10: GHAMI – SAMAR (TREK)
Ghami to Samar – Local villages and magnificent mountain views.

Trekking time: approx. 7 hours.
Overnight: Tea house.


DAY 11: SAMAR – KAGBENI (TREK)
Samar to Kagbeni – beautiful scapes awaits you.

Trekking time: approx. 7 hours
Overnight in tea house.


DAY 12: KAGBENI – JOMSOM (TREK)
Kagbeni to Jomsom – You last trekking day so enjoy the last bits of Upper Mustang’s magic.

Trekking time: approx. 3 hours
Overnight: Tea house.

DAY 13: JOMSOM – POKHARA (FLIGHT)

In the early morning you have an amazing 25 minute flight down the Kali Gandaki River Valley to Pokhara.
Upon arrival in Pokhara airport you will continue your journey on your own or contact us for further arrangements.
