Udawalwe National Park

Hundreds of wild elephants gathered at a waterhole, an elusive leopard hunting and wild buffaloes sending you lazy glances as you slowly pass by. With its stark beauty and light vegetations, Uda Walawe certainly is the one national park in Sri Lanka not to miss!

To the south in Sri Lanka, in Uda Walawe National Park, you have the chance to see more wild Asian elephants than anywhere else in the world. In fact, it is often surpasses many of the most famous East African National Parks. For now the park is not as crowded with travelers, as is the case with Yala National Park, but that may change.

Uda Walawe is centered on the 308.2 square kilometer Uda Walawe Reservoir with a fine grass and scrubland and the mountains near Ella visible in the horizon. Thanks to a stark beauty and lack of vegetation, wildlife watching is easy.
