Meet at New Road Guest House , Charoen Krung 36 at 08.15hrs. The tour starts at New Road Guest House at 8.30 hrs. Here you will meet your guide who will give a short briefing, and then walk you to the sky train station. Board the sky train for a short ride to Wongwian Yai, which will already leave you with a feel of a day beyond the beaten track when you walk through local neighbourhoods to get to the station where the train ride starts. If time admits, you will get a local snack and coffee from the local market stalls around the station.
Jumping on the train as it leaves the station. You will almost feel that you drive through the kitchens and living rooms of the locals. On the way, you will see the big buildings of Bangkok become smaller in the distance until rice fields and houses on stilts surround you. With open eyes you can lean back and enjoy the scenic ride.
When the train comes to a stop, you will literally have arrived in the middle of the Mahachai fresh market. Your guide will walk you through some of the small alleys and take you to a famous restaurant where you will be treated to some of the freshest and best seafood around.
After lunch you will cross the sea bank with a small boat and jump on the next train. This train ride is a bit different as it goes through slightly different scenery filled with salt planes and rice fields. At the end of this train ride you are in for a culturally unique and truly fascinating experience. When entering the market that swallows the train as umbrellas and stalls are opened again on the trail seconds after the train has left it behind.
You will have time to see the local market on the rail tracks before the guide will find the minivan taking you back to Bangkok’s metropolis. Upon arrival in the outskirts of Bangkok, change from minivan to boat, and sail to Chao Phraya’s Pier number 1, which is also Saphan Taksin BTS Skytrain Station. Expected arrival time in Bangkok is about 17.00 hrs depending on the traffic situation.
